More Information
Geoff and Jim, two legends of Folk and Americana performing music from the deepest traditions of American music, from African-American 19th century pioneers to country and bluegrass bands of later periods. In mid-1960s, Jim Kweskin and the Jug Band was the original “Americana” band, playing everything from classic blues to hillbilly country, ragtime, jazz, and rock ’n’ roll. Geoff Muldaur & Jim Kweskin are now the elder statesmen of American roots music.
Geoff and Jim first appeared on a bill together in February 1963 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, went on to be founding members of the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, and almost singlehandedly brought about a national revival of interest in pre-World War II rural music. They perfectly captured the 1960s mix of exuberant anarchy and heartfelt sincerity—one of the many other jug bands they inspired evolved into the Grateful Dead—but no other group attained their unique blend of youthful energy and antiquarian expertise, tight musicianship, loose camaraderie, and infectious swing. |
